Upon arrival, you'll enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon game drive, where you may encounter elephants, giraffes, buffalo, antelopes, and more. The day ends with a relaxing sunset boat trip offering beautiful views and close encounters with hippos and crocodiles.
You'll spend the day exploring Akagera’s northern plains on a full-day safari accompanied by a knowledgeable ranger. This area is rich in wildlife and offers spectacular scenery, with opportunities to spot lions, hyenas, elands, topi, giraffes, and an array of birds. A picnic lunch in the wilderness completes this immersive experience.
You'll begin the day with an early morning safari when wildlife activity is at its peak. After a hot breakfast, you will continue your journey back through Kigali and onward to Volcanoes National Park. In the afternoon, you will visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about Rwanda’s conservation efforts and the protection of endangered mountain gorillas.
At sunrise, you'll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on your mountain gorilla trek. Guided by experienced trackers and assisted by a porter, you'll venture into the lush forest to meet a gorilla family in their natural habitat. You'll spend a magical hour observing them—an experience often described as life-changing.
Your morning begins with an exciting trek to observe the golden monkeys, known for their playful behavior and bright golden fur. After lunch, you'll travel to the peaceful shores of Lake Kivu, where you end your day with a relaxing boat tour through the beautiful Bay of Islands with swimming cows.
You'll enjoy a stunning coastal drive along the shores of Lake Kivu, where rolling hills, emerald waters, and charming fishing villages create a truly scenic journey toward Nyungwe National Park, one of East Africa’s most precious and biodiverse rainforests. Along the way, you will soak in the peaceful atmosphere and ever-changing landscapes that make this drive an experience in itself.
After a relaxed packed lunch surrounded by nature en route, you will continue into the heart of the forest for one of Nyungwe’s signature adventures, the canopy walk and zipline experience. Suspended high above the forest floor, the canopy bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views over the treetops, deep valleys, and mist-covered mountains, providing a unique bird’s-eye perspective of the rainforest. As you glide across the zipline, you'll feel the thrill of moving through the canopy while immersed in the sounds of nature, birds, and primates below—a highlight of your Nyungwe experience.
An early morning start leads you deep into Nyungwe Forest for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience.
